Ramya Krishnan is a film actress who has acted in more than 200 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi languages.  Ramya got training in Bharathanatyam,  Kuchipudi, and  Western dance forms and she has also performed on stage.

Ramya got married to Telugu film director Krishna Vamsi in 2003 and is blessed with a son named Ritwik. The name of her sister is Vinaya Krishnan. She is the niece of long-time Tamil comedian Cho Ramaswamy. Ramya appeared as Shaliyaa in the TV show 'Shaktimaan' that was aired on Pogo channel during 1997 to 2005.


Krishnan started her acting career as a child actress with the Malayalam film 'Neram Pularumbol' which had a delayed release in 1986.  So her first release is a Tamil film Vellai Manasu (1985), in which she starred opposite Y. G. Mahendra.
'Bhalae Mithrulu’ (1986) is the first Telugu film of Ramya Krishnan.

Ramya Krishnan has played a crucial role of Queen Regent named Sivagami Devi in the upcoming movie 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' that is scheduled for release on 28 April 2017.

These include Dayavan (1988), Khal Nayak (1993), Parampara (1993), and Criminal (1994). In 1996, she acted in the films Banarasi Babu and Chaahat. Her movies in 1997 are Loha and Shapath. In 1998, she acted in the films Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Wajood


Ø  Ramya won two Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress for the Telugu movies Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam (2009) and Baahubali: The Beginning (2015).
Ø  She is the recipient of Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the Tamil film Padayappa (1999). She also got the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress for the film Padayappa.
Ø  Ramya is the winner of Nandi Awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for the films Kante Koothurne Kanu (1998) and Raju Maharaju (2009) respectively.
Ø  She won two awards for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Malayalam film 'Ore Kadal ‘ (2007). These are Dubai Amma Award and Amrita Film Award.
Ø  Krishnan won two IIFA Utsavam Awards 2016. These awards are for Best Supporting Actress for the film Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) in Tamil and Telugu versions.
